Toddlers is for newborns to three-year-olds. It’s an hour and a half on weekday mornings with toys and craft, song time, refreshments and a baby area.

Dear  Parents, Grandparents and Carers,

The toddler groups restarted last term and it has been great to have the little ones and their parents and carers back in the Junction building.   Even though the COVID restrictions have eased, we still have to take care as we move forward out of the pandemic to ensure that everyone is kept as safe as possible.   We are currently checking on how many vacancies we have in each group and the number of children and adults that can safely be accommodated in the Children’s Room at any one time.   If your child is already in one of the groups, his/her place  remains secure;  if you have applied for a place for your child in September, then you will be advised of the outcome of your application before the end of this month.   Still thinking about applying for a place?   Please read on to gather all the information you might need.

I trust and pray you are enjoying the Summer break – please take good care of yourselves and your families.

How are the Toddler Groups run?     Christ Church Toddlers is run by a team of volunteer Christian mums and co-ordinated by Sylvia Mann. Currently we are able to staff the groups on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings every week during the term time of Christ Church Primary School. Each session starts at 10.00 am and ends at  11.30 am in the Children’s Room on the ground floor of the Junction building attached to the church.

We welcome little ones from birth until the end of the term in which they reach the age of three. Children are brought by their mum or dad, a grandparent or a carer, such as a nanny or au pair. Each group has a volunteer leader, who takes responsibility for the general running of the session, but all the parents and carers help out as well.   All adults are required to wear masks unless they have a bona fide exemption.   Certain other precautions are taken and details are provided when the offer of a place in a toddler group is made.

What do we do?     The morning consists of free play and there is a range of toys that will entertain both girls and boys at every age. Each week there is a simple craft activity such as play-dough modelling, colouring or sticking. Tea and coffee are available for the adults, but we ask that a drink (including a beaker or cup) and a snack is brought for each child.

After tidying everything away fifteen minutes before the end of the session, we have Circle Time – there might be a story and although we cannot sing at present, we speak the words of the songs and rhymes and do the actions.  Sometimes there are notices and we close with a prayer.

Once the COVID-19 restrictions ease sufficiently, we hope we can hold a number of special events, such as special Christmas and Easter events, a picnic on the Common in the summer, and a Christmas party when Father Christmas visits! Once a year, in the autumn term, we organise a photographer to visit.

How much does it cost?     Our subscription is £12 per term for each child and £3 per term for each additional child from the same family. This contribution covers the adult refreshments, the upkeep of the Children’s Room, new toys, craft supplies, birthday cards and Christmas gifts for the children. We also support the education of a child in Kenya and give donations to charity.

Can I apply for a place now?     Yes.   If you would like to apply for a place, then it is essential that you complete our registration form.   Even if the child will be brought to the group by someone else, a parent needs to complete the form.  We are often over-subscribed and, therefore, there can be quite a wait if you are particular about which day of the week you would like to attend. The toddler groups are open to all families in the local area, but we do give priority to Christ Church members and those who live within the parish boundary.

If you would like to register your child/children, please email or post the completed registration form to us – the details are below. The form will be acknowledged on receipt and the name(s) of your child/children will be placed on the waiting list on the day the form is received.

Is there anything I can do in the meantime?   Elsewhere on this website you can find out about our Sunday services, other activities and groups and generally what’s going on both as we follow the roadmap out of lockdown and when we are able to operate normally again.  If you require any specific information, other than about toddler groups, then please email office@cccw.org.uk or call the church office on 01923 282149.
