Toddlers is for newborns to three-year-olds. It’s an hour and a half on weekday mornings with toys and craft, song time, refreshments and a baby area.
Dear Toddler Parents and Carers,
We are missing seeing and hearing you all and we are so conscious of the particular challenges that you face in caring for young children with all the restrictions in place. Please be assured of our prayers for you and your families at this time – take care and look after yourselves and others that you love and care for.
Check our website for regular updates, especially under Toddlers and on our Children’s and Youth pages. Two suggestions from our toddler mums: Google – 100+ Indoor Activities and on You Tube – The Body Coach – PE with Joe – Monday to Friday (9.00 to 9.30 am) – Joe has styled himself the Nation’s PE Teacher and is encouraging everyone to take part. Please don’t hesitate to contact me on the mobile or by email if you need help in any way.
Our Children’s team have produced a series of toddlers online session which can be viewed here – Toddlers Online
How are the Toddler Groups run? Christ Church Toddlers is run by a team of volunteer Christian mums and co-ordinated by Sylvia Mann, Assistant Churchwarden. Toddlers is currently divided into four groups which meet in The Junction at the church on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings every week during the term time of Christ Church Primary School. Our morning meetings start at 10 am and run until 11.30 am.
We welcome little ones from birth until the end of the term in which they turn three years old. Some children come with their mum or dad, a grandparent or a carer, such as a nanny or au pair. Each group has a volunteer coordinator or two, who take responsibility for the general running of the session, but all the parents and carers help out as well.
What do we do? The morning consists of free play and there is a range of toys that will entertain both girls and boys at every age. Each week there is a simple craft activity such as play-dough modelling, colouring or sticking. Half-way through the morning, juice and biscuits are served to the children and there may be a story. Throughout the morning a volunteer helper serves the adults with tea, coffee and biscuits.
Fifteen minutes before the end of the session, after tidying away, we sit in a circle for songs, notices and a prayer.
Once a month, instead of circle time, a Toddle-In Service is held in the church for each group. This is a short mini service and includes a Bible story and Christian message and a song and a prayer.
During the year we hold a number of special events, such as Christmas and Easter Toddler Services, a picnic on the Common in the summer, and a Christmas party when Father Christmas visits! Once a year, in the autumn term, we organise a photographer to visit.
How much does it cost? Our subscription is £12 per term for each child and £3 per term for each additional child from the same family. This contribution covers refreshments, the upkeep of the Children’s Room, new toys, craft supplies, birthday cards and Christmas gifts for the children. We also support the education of a child in Kenya and give donations to charity.
Can I apply for a place now? Sadly because of COVID-19 The Junction is still closed, so we are not able to welcome little ones into the building just yet. However, If you would like to join one of the toddler groups when we are able to re-open, then it is essential that you complete our registration form. We are often over-subscribed and there can be quite a wait if you are particular about which day of the week you would like to attend. The toddler groups are open to all families in the local area, but we do give priority to Christ Church members and those who live within the parish boundary.
If you would like to register your child/children for when we are able to re-open, please email or post the completed registration form to us – the details are below. The form will be acknowledged on receipt and the name(s) of your child/children will be placed on the waiting list on the day the form is received.
Is there anything I can do in the meantime? We are having to abide by the COVID-19 restrictions, but by going to our website (cccw.org.uk) and clicking on the various options you can find out about our Sunday services, other activities and groups and generally what’s going on. Click on “Children and Youth” for information about the programmes available for the different age groups and scroll down and click on KIDS to find online activities for younger children.
